In news that will make homebuyers and sellers alike happy, mortgage rates dropped to their lowest level in a year to close out 2025.
Freddie Mac reported 6.15% as the average on a 30-year mortgage last week, down three basis points from the previous week.
“After starting the year close to 7%, the average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage moved to its lowest level in 2025 this week, an encouraging sign for potential homebuyers heading into the new year,” said Sam Khater, Freddie Mac’s Chief Economist.
The UrbanTurf Mortgage Rate Disclaimer: The rates reported by Freddie Mac for 30-year mortgages are usually the best rates that the most qualified borrowers can get, so borrowers or those considering refinancing should not necessarily read this news and think that they can go out and get a loan with the quoted interest rate.
