Lofty Renting in DC
This week in What X Rents You, UrbanTurf decided to take a look at lofts.
Unlike Chicago or New York, DC does not have a stock of warehouses with huge industrial loft spaces. The lofts in DC essentially fall into two categories: large new units in converted old schools or churches that are taking on a second life or loft-like residences in newer developments. Here are three options that are on the rental market right now.

U Street Corridor Loft with Private Roof Deck
This two-bedroom is the penthouse unit in a 14-unit complex near Meridian Hill Park. The unit is a multi-level: a loft overlooks the main living area and leads to a 200-square foot private roof deck. The two-bedroom home feels fairly traditional despite the loft, with built-in shelving and carpeted bedrooms. Skylights and an HDTV projector set up in the main living area add some appeal. The unit is available on August 1st.

Live in a Former Children’s Museum
There are two units available for rent at the Landmark Lofts at Senate Square. The 130-year old building close to Union Station was previously a convent, and then the Capitol Children’s Museum; in 2008, it was converted into lofts by developer Abdo. The high-end units attracted a few famous buyers, including former Mayor Anthony Williams and the co-founder of BET. The units have unique floor plans with exposed historic fabric, vaulted ceilings, large windows and a large entertaining space. Finishes include Wolf-Subzero kitchens, custom baths and designer lighting. Renters also have access to all Senate Square amenities including 24 hour concierge service, roof-top pool, club room, screening room and private health club. The lofts are available to rent immediately.

Contemporary Loft in the U Street Corridor
This two-bedroom loft is in The Beauregard, a modern building in the U Street Corridor that was developed in 2007. The unit is the most contemporary of the bunch, with floor-to-ceiling windows, high ceilings, a sleek kitchen, unusually projecting bay windows and an open floor plan. The building’s exterior has a cool undulating look, and the rooftop has views of the Capitol. The unit is available immediately.
