Vice President Kamala Harris is announcing two big housing initiatives today.

At a campaign speech in North Carolina, Harris will unveil an aggressive economic agenda that included a bold housing production goal and generous assistance to first-time homebuyers.

Harris is proposing $25,000 in down payment assistance to first-time homebuyers who have a two-year history of paying their rent on time. The vice president also set a goal of producing 3 million new homes in her first four years in office, largely through new tax incentives. The focus on the housing production will be on starter homes and affordable housing.

"As the Harris-Walz plan starts to expand the supply of entry-level homes, they will, during their first term, provide working families who have paid their rent on time for two years and are buying their first home up to $25,000 in down-payment assistance, with more generous support for first-generation homeowners," a statement obtained by ABC News read.

Both proposals outlined above would require Congressional approval.
