As Howard University gears up for its spring 2020 revision of the Campus Master Plan, huge redevelopment plans may be emerging.
Last night, Eric Fidler, an attendee at Howard University's quarterly Community Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting, tweeted about the university exploring the idea of rebuilding the university hospital elsewhere on campus.
This relocation would enable redevelopment of the hospital's current site, between Georgia Avenue and 5th Street NW between W Street and the alley off Bohrer Street (map), with up to three million square feet of private development.

One of the images shared last night seems to show a new hospital being constructed across from the College Hall dormitory on 4th Street NW, approximately the current site of the Louis Stokes Library. The diagram also suggests some reestablishment of the street grid through the hospital site.
The University sent the following statement to UrbanTurf in response to an inquiry about last night's presentation:
"During the CAC meeting held last night, initial thoughts about how the campus could potentially evolve over the next 10 years were shared with the community. These were preliminary concepts to begin a Master Planning dialogue and not a finalized plan. There are no plans in place to move the hospital at this time. Howard University will continue to keep the community informed of any decisions as the process progresses."
