Metropolitan Regional Information Systems, or MRIS, the company that runs the multiple listings service for the DC metropolitan area, has released version 2.0 of HomesDatabase, its housing search tool for consumers. The site has been overhauled to make it more user-friendly and clean. Public transportation search options have been improved as well, with home buyers now able to enter Metro, MARC, and Baltimore Light Rail stations to find nearby options.
Local real estate agent and author of the Urban Trekker blog Dewita Soeharjono points out that home buyers in the DC area would be advised to use HomesDatabase over national sites like Realtor.com because the the listings from HomesDatabase are up-to-date whereas the Realtor.com’s can be stale.
Another benefit to HomesDatabase is that you can register to receive new listing and open house notifications anonymously. This can be a nice option for those who haven’t chosen an agent to work with and therefore don’t want to receive listings notifications from a particular agent.
(Note: MRIS claims it is the nation’s largest MLS. This isn’t altogether surprising when you consider that it includes listings not just for the DC Metro area but for further-flung parts of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania as well.)
Check out the new HomesDatabase.
