Georgetown's Edes House Hits the Market for $13 Million
Georgetown's historic Edes House hit the market last week for nearly $13 million.
Originally built in 1907, Congress dedicated the four-story house at 2929 N Street NW as a home for Georgetown widows. It later began admitting single women, then Georgetown University graduate students before going defunct in 1991.
Developers purchased the property in 1998 for $825,000 and flipped it the next year, completely renovated, for just over $4 million. The current owners had it redesigned extensively by Thomas Pheasant, who opened up several areas of the interior, added pilasters and moldings, and replaced the pine flooring with reclaimed oak.

The house has over 13,400 interior square feet, including 8 bedrooms, 9 full bathrooms, and two half-bathrooms. It also has a sunroom, private terraces, a 60 foot-long bromide lap pool on the ground floor, and a gym with views of the Potomac River.
Each of the upper levels has a large landing with sitting area that adds to a sense of grandeur throughout, and the owner's suite takes up an entire floor with a reception area, two separate dressing rooms, a paneled library, and elevator access.
The lower level has a second kitchen, and the outdoor space includes a covered patio and three parking spaces. Additional details are below.
