Georgetown Estate Adjacent to Evermay Will Be Listed For $22 Million

A 10,000 square-foot estate in Georgetown will soon hit the market for $22 million, UrbanTurf has learned, joining the $29 million home of Under Armour's Kevin Plank as one of the most expensive homes for sale in Georgetown.

The Brooke House at 1607 28th Street NW (map) will officially be listed for sale this fall. Formerly a part of the neighboring Evermay estate, the home was completely renovated by DC-based architect Christian Zapatka in 2005.

The nine-bedroom, ten-bath home sits on a third of an acre and has the feel of a country home, but the trappings of a residence that would carry a $22 million price tag, including a private massage room, a 2,000 bottle wine cellar and off-street parking for 11 cars. The estate is the former home of the late Ted Kennedy. It will be listed with Daniel Heider of TTR Sotheby's International Realty.
Just a few years ago, homes listed at or above $20 million in the DC area were a rarity. Now, they are commonplace. Below is a quick rundown of high-priced listings and sales in the DC region:
- Steve Case's Merrywood estate in Virginia was purchased by Saudi Arabia in May.
- The Merrywood sale came on the heels of AOL co-founder James Kimsey's estate being listed for $63 million.
- The first home of Chevy Chase was listed in May for just south of $26 million.
- And the former Cafritz estate in DC is on the market currently for about $20 million.
