Dupont Circle’s Swann House, a 12-bedroom bed and breakfast, will be auctioned off next Thursday, UrbanTurf has learned.

The property at 1808 New Hampshire Avenue NW (map) hit the market last year for $6.95 million, and saw its price reduced a few times. Presumably unable to find a buyer, a series of auctions were scheduled for the property which were either then postponed or canceled altogether.

Auctioneer Tranzon Fox told UrbanTurf that the auction scheduled for next Thursday, December 19th, will move forward and will take place at the bed and breakfast. Interested bidders can preview the property this Friday.

The 12-bedroom property is massive, and as one might expect from a bed and breakfast, there are plenty of luxurious trimmings, like intricately carved fireplaces in the bedrooms, whirlpool bathtubs, a swimming pool, and a number of private terraces. The house was built in 1883 and has an appropriately historic feel.

Swann House joins a handful of other bed and breakfasts in the area that have been sold or auctioned in the past couple of years. DC GuestHouse, a smaller bed and breakfast, sold in 2012 for $1.85 million after sitting on the market for over a year.

This is a tremendous shame. The Swann House has been an asset to the neighborhood and was an anchor of neighborhood renewal. Crossing my fingers that there's an Innkeeper with the money to buy it, instead having it carved up into souless shoebox condos like most of the other grand dames of the neighborhood. GM got a bailout, why not the owners of Swann House?

Is there a reserve price? I, too, hope that a deep-pocketed homeowner or innkeeper can snag this one to prevent this gem from being converted into soulless condos.

Thank you JJ, Laura and Rick for your kind comments. I am an owner of Swann House and this is not how I had planned to end my tenure as steward of this lovely gem of a property. Let it be known that Swann House on its own was a profitable business so I am also hoping that it will remain a bed and breakfast. I wish to thank our neighbors for their support and all our guests through the years for their continued business. It was a great ride! If anyone needs house cleaners, I have 2 wonderful housekeepers who are looking for jobs. Please leave a message on 202-265-4414.

Does anyone know if this sold? If so, at what price?
