DCmud: Downtown is Doing Alright: Figure 1

DCmud has reported on the 2008 State of Downtown report that was recently issued by the Downtown Business Improvement District (BID). All in all, things don’t look as bleak as expected.

There were a number of interesting findings in the BID’s report, which covers downtown from Union Station to the White House below Massachusetts Avenue. Below are a few highlights. You can read the full report here.

Highlights:

  • 3,800 new jobs were created during 2007 and 2008.
  • Downtown hotels had a 75 percent occupancy rate in 2008.
  • More than 3,000 new housing units have been built in the BID since 2000.
  • The average price per square foot for a condo in the BID between 2002 and 2008 was $636; in the rest of DC it was $510.
