2000 14th Street SE
In the market for a church? We feel like we’ve been asking that question a lot recently.
A church at 2000 14th Street SE (map) in Historic Anacostia will be put up for auction this Wednesday at 11am. According to the listing, the Agape 1 Church of Christ has about 9,000 square feet of interior space, and from the photos, there appear to be some very high ceilings. It is zoned R-3, which allows for the development of single-family residential uses, including detached, semi-detached, and row dwellings, churches and public schools (more details on R-3 zoning can be found here), but not a multi-unit development. The property was previously on the market for just south of $1 million.
UrbanTurf is always interested when houses of worship enter the real estate market, since so many are snapped up by developers who convert them into boutique condo projects. However, the auctions of these religious buildings has begun to get a little unsettling, and it appears that the trend can be seen in the rest of the country.
Alex Cooper Real Estate is running the auction for the church which will take place in Friendship Heights (details can be found here).
Update: The auction of this property has been postponed. We will provide information as we learn more.
