In this week’s edition of Best Open Houses, we feature a renovated corner home in Brookland, a Federal row house with a sunny kitchen across the street from Howard University, and a Silver Spring Cape Cod that has a gazebo out back.
Renovated Corner Home in Brookland
1847 Monroe St NE (map)
Despite the fact that the sellers are still putting the finishing touches on the renovation of this four-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath bungalow in Brookland, we decided to choose it anyway. Brookland is a stable and affordable neighborhood where residents stay put, which means nice homes don’t hit the market all that often. The front yard of this one looks out across the street to the wide open green field of Burroughs Elementary, and because it sits on the corner of the block, its front yard wraps around to the side of the house. Inside, the sellers have retained a lot of the original woodwork and put in high-end appliances as part of the renovation. There is a finished basement unit, as well as a finished attic that could work as a play room for the kids. The open house is Sunday, March 21st from 1 to 3pm. For the full listing, click here.
Row House Across from Howard in Columbia Heights
732 Fairmont St NW (map)
The sun-washed kitchen is what jumps out at us from this Federal-style row house in eastern Columbia Heights. There are three bedrooms and one and a half bathrooms, plus nice french doors and hardwood flooring throughout. Out back there is a small but well-groomed yard, and behind that a detached one-car garage. It’s only about a half-block from Howard’s campus and so a great fit for anyone who works or studies at the university. The open house is Sunday, March 21st from 1 to 4pm. See the full listing here.
Three-Bedroom Cape Cod with Gazebo in Silver Spring
2908 Forsythe Ave (map)
Just inside the Beltway in northern Silver Spring, this three-bedroom Cape Cod is a little further afield than we usually look. But we couldn’t resist its gazebo and the vaguely rustic feel of the place. It is in a nicely wooded neighborhood, which means almost all the windows look out into trees. There is one bedroom on the main level, plus two upstairs that have two closets each. The basement is a large finished rec room, and the living room has a handsome stone fireplace. If the woodsy feel of the block isn’t enough, Rock Creek Park is less than a five-minute walk away. The open house is Sunday, March 21st from 1 to 4pm. For the full listing, click here.
UPDATE: We just heard from the listing agent that this property has already been sold. (It was on the market for less than a week.)
