An 80-100 Key Hotel Looks to Squeeze In Near Union Market

A boutique hotel has been pitched for a Union Market area that continues to buzz with development.
EDENS has plans in the works for a four-story hotel that would replace a two-story commercial building at 1271 5th Street NE (map). The new hotel would be sandwiched in between an apartment building at 550 Morse Street and a planned 600-unit project that is part of Gallaudet University and JBG SMITH's sprawling plans for the area.

The upper three levels and penthouse of the new project would house hotel rooms, while the ground floor would include the lobby, as well as potentially a restaurant or other commercial, retail, and/or service uses.
The mezzanine and penthouse levels will also be designed to include hotel-related uses such as conference/meeting spaces, event areas or a gym. The penthouse will have an outdoor terrace facing 5th Street.
