The DC area will start to see a lot more of Amazon Fresh starting today.
Yesterday, signage appeared for the new Amazon grocery store in Friendship Heights. UrbanTurf first reported in early 2020 that an Amazon-branded grocery store would take over the former Giant location at 5463 Wisconsin Avenue (map) which closed due to low sales. An opening date for the new store has not been announced.

Another Amazon Fresh store in the region is actually opening today. The company's first DC outpost is opening at The Liz, a new apartment building located at 14th and R Street NW (map).
Both of the new Amazon stores will use "Just Walk Out" technology whereby shoppers scan a QR code when they enter the store and then are able to shop and walk out without a formal checkout line. The shopper is then charged for what they put in the cart while they were in the store.
