A Bird's Nest, A UFO? Sweden's Unique Lodging Options

The Bird’s Nest
In this week’s departure from all things DC real estate related, we escape to the treetops.
A few days ago, The Daily GOOD ran a feature about the Treehotel, lodging accommodations in the forests of Sweden that look like they were designed by birds, or maybe aliens, but not humans.
For example, there is The Bird’s Nest that simply looks like a giant nest from the outside. The inside suite is modern, however, and can fit a (human) family of four.

The Mirrorcube
Taking another approach to seamless camouflage, designers outfitted the Mirrorcube lodging option with mirrors on all sides, so that onlookers only see forest and sky reflected back at them. To prevent birds from crashing into the walls, the walls are lined with infrared film, which is invisible to humans.

The UFO
In a sci-fi departure, the UFO option reflects the imagination of many a conspiracy theorist. It looks like an archetypical, lentil-shaped UFO, complete with a ray of light beaming down on the ground below.

Inside the Mirrorcube
Set in the Harad region by the Lule Rover Valley, the hotel’s remote setting and unreal lodging options offer a certain escape from more run-of-the-mill hotels and motels. For more information about how to book a nest or UFO, click here.
