A Look at The 1 Million Square Foot Development Coming to Old Town North
There are huge redevelopment plans on the boards for the former GenOn power plant (map) in the Old Town North section of Alexandria, and new renderings provide a sense of what the buildings will look like.

The project will be developed in three blocks -- Block A will be an arts and cultural center along with various commercial spaces, while Blocks B and C will consist of condo and apartments buildings totaling nearly 800 units.
Hillco's team recently submitted presented its design concepts to the Old Town North Urban Design Advisory Committee.
"The design concepts are the result of an iterative approach that incorporates dialogue with the City, UDAC members, and our neighboring community, and represents an important step in realizing our shared vision for an integrated and vibrant Old Town North," Michelle Beaman Chang, vice president of mixed-used development, told UrbanTurf. "We were excited to receive positive feedback from the committee and community members, and we look forward to continuing this dialogue as we move forward with this iconic redevelopment.”
