A House Built Around Trees

Earlier this week, The New York Times featured a very cool Vancouver home that was built as a literal tree-hugger: the owners designed the house around four giant Douglas Firs. While the house doesn’t have trees coming through the floorboards or branches reaching into bedrooms, the subtle cut-outs in the deck and a long, narrow hallway reveal the design that incorporated the 350-year old trees. The owners, a couple from Calgary, ended up spending about $4.5 million on the contemporary home.
