While Crystal City has a lot of vertical construction in the works, its most prominent developer is adding some smaller-scale destinations to the mix.
On Monday, JBG Smith announced that construction has started at its Water Park and Dining in the Park destinations. Both will be outdoor gathering spaces focused primarily on dining, and are licensed for visitors to drink alcoholic beverages anywhere on the premises.

Sited on 1.6 acres at 1601 Crystal Drive (map), the Water Park will include a 1,400 square-foot restaurant and nine 300 square-foot dining kiosks meant to be incubators for locally-owned, women-owned, and minority-owned establishments. There will also be a "Water Bar", a performance stage, a water wall fountain, and ample seating.
Due to its proximity to the Mt. Vernon Trail, the Water Park will also have a trailhead building with bicycle facilities and restrooms, and there may eventually be a new link to the future Virginia Railway Express station. Dining in the Park will be in front of 2121 Crystal Drive (map), pairing a 5,587 square-foot restaurant from Chef Enrique Limardo and the Seven Restaurant Group with over an acre of green space and outdoor seating.
Elkus Manfredi is the design architect and Hoerr Schaudt is the landscape architect. Both spaces are expected to deliver next year. Additional renderings are below.
