A "Bodega" and a Speakeasy Among Amenities at Proposed 421-Room Downtown DC Hotel Redevelopment

More than two years after plans were revealed for one of DC’s oldest known surviving apartment buildings, The Harrison has a new developer and a new proposal for redevelopment.
Quadrum Global has applied for concept approval from the Historic Preservation Review Board to retrofit The Harrison at 333 G Street NW (map) into a 12-story Arlo Hotel with roughly 421 rooms. In 2012, Renaissance Centro received zoning approval for what would now be a matter-of-right 12-story building with 200 hotel rooms and 65 apartments.

In addition to standard amenities including a penthouse lounge and pool, the proposed hotel would also have space for two restaurants, one of which has space designated for a speakeasy; there is also 1,148 square feet that has been marked for a "bodegea" [sic] at 3rd and G Streets. One of the restaurants would be on the ground level and the other would be in the cellar which is where the speakeasy would be located.
This proposed hotel joins two others in the pipeline within a couple of blocks: the recently-proposed Caption in the 500 block of H Street and a planned hotel in the center block of Capitol Crossing.
The Harrison is a Romanesque Revival-style building designed by Johnson and Company and completed in 1890. The building was designated as a DC landmark in 1990 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. Architecture, Incorporated is the architect and EHT Traceries is helming the historic preservation.
