New data shows that DC continues to make up for population losses experienced during COVID.
The U.S. Census Bureau released new data on Thursday that shows that the city’s population grew nearly 15,000 people to 702,250 between July 1, 2023 to July 1, 2024. It marks the third year in a row that DC’s population increased.

"The District of Columbia was the fastest growing (2.2%) [population] among state and state equivalents for the first time since 2011," a press release stated.
The population increases of the last three years have helped offset the COVID-related population declines in 2021, when the city lost approximately 20,000 residents.
