The plans for one of the final parcels at DC's St. Elizabeth's East campus are beginning to come into focus.
On Wednesday, Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) announced the selection of Parcel 6 Community Partners to develop Parcel 6 on the campus in Ward 8 (map).
As planned, the new development will include two new apartment buildings with retail and just north of 500 units, nine live/work townhomes, and a public park. The apartment buildings -- named The Martin and The Malcolm, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X -- will have a total of 152 affordable units for tenants earning below 60% area median income (AMI). The development, designed by Tori Gallas Urban, will also have 23,000 square feet of neighborhood retail space and a large community park.
The plans are just the latest pitched for the biggest development in the works east of the Anacostia River. A Redbrick-led development team has a five-building development at Parcel 15 in the works, and earlier this year, we got a look at the new headquarters for Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) planned for the campus.
