The percentage of cash home sales in DC so far in 2019 remains consistent with the first quarter of last year.

1,782 homes have sold in the District in 2019 — and 17 percent of those homes went to buyers paying all cash. In the first quarter of 2018, 1,892 homes sold and about 19 percent went to cash buyers.

Neighborhoods where cash transactions are prevalent can be found on both sides of the city. West End saw half of home purchases made in cash while in Spring Valley, 45 percent of home sales were all-cash transactions.

However, it wasn't just the city's high-priced neighborhoods where cash was king. In Randle Heights east of the Anacostia River, 33 percent of homes purchased fell into the all-cash category.

Below is a sampling of DC neighborhoods and the percentage of all-cash transactions so far this year:

  • Georgetown: 33 percent
  • Ledroit Park: 25 percent
  • Trinidad: 17 percent
  • Chevy Chase: 16 percent
  • Petworth: 13 percent

In this article, the term “home” is defined as any single-family house, condo or co-op that sold in the city in 2019.
