Plans to replace a small office building in Northern Virginia with a substantial new residential development are moving ahead.
Last year, The Meridian Group filed plans with Arlington County to replace the five-story office building at 2500 Wilson Boulevard (map) with a 16-story residential building with 323 apartments. The development, designed by Studios Architecture, will also have 18,000 square feet of ground floor retail and an underground parking garage with about 237 spaces. That project will go before the county's Site Plan Review Committee in the coming weeks.

The proposal for the new development also includes a number of site improvements, including new bicycle facilities, two outdoor dining areas and upwards of 7,000 square feet of public space.

This is just the latest project set to replace an aging office building along Wilson Boulevard. Last July, an affiliate of Carr Properties filed plans with Arlington County to construct an 8-story, 312-unit apartment building at 3033 Wilson Boulevard that would replace a seven-story office building at the address.
