In May 2010, Madison Investments purchased a 28-unit apartment building at 1020 Monroe Street NW (map), a quiet indication of a trend the DC region hadn’t seen in years: condo conversions.
UrbanTurf has now learned that the initial pricing for 1020 Monroe, the 28-unit condo development that the building has been transformed into, has been nailed down. One-bedrooms will range in price from $299,900 to $359,900 and two-bedrooms from $399,900 to $469,900. The size of the units will run from 542 square feet to approximately 1,100 square feet. Sales, handled by Urban Pace, will start next month, and delivery of the project is scheduled for early fall.
1020 Monroe sits in Columbia Heights at the corner of Monroe and 11th Street, a block that was introduced to readers of The New York Times at the beginning of the year as “Washington’s hippest new strip,” thanks to places like Wonderland bar, Red Rocks Pizzeria, and Meridian Pint. 1020 Monroe is planning on bringing another establishment to the block as well: the owner of Tryst, the popular coffee shop in Adams Morgan, has plans to open a diner/bar/coffee shop on the ground floor of the project.
