Where JFK Met Jackie: A Georgetown House Hits the Market

Last year, it was Martha Washington's granddaughter's honeymoon house. This year, it's the Georgetown house where John F. Kennedy met Jacqueline Bouvier.
Located in the heart of Georgetown's west end, this red-brick house on Q Street has played host to a number of parties over the years, including one on a May night in 1951 where an iconic couple first made each other's acquaintance.
Charles and Martha Bartlett threw a dinner party and invited then-congressman John F. Kennedy as well as Jackie Bouvier, who was a photojournalist. There were eight other attendees at the party, which was ostensibly put together just to introduce the pair to each other.

The couple married two years later, and Kennedy became president in 1961. After JFK's assassination, Jackie briefly returned to Georgetown to stay at a friend's house less than a mile away from where she met her late husband. She later bought the friend's house, which also sold last year.

3419 Q Street NW was built in 1895 and was combined with the adjacent house in 1956, doubling its square footage. Its interior still retains some period details, including restored hardwood floors, a wood-burning fireplace and the cozy brick-paved courtyard where the former first couple had cocktails long ago. The home will hit the market this week.
