The master bathroom you see above is not the only room in this week’s What X Buys You that features great-looking tilework. A handful of the rooms in this five-bedroom, 5.5-bath colonial in Petworth exude an understated flair using either bold tiling or exposed brick or both (check out the kitchen). With four floors spread over 4,500 square feet, the hundred-year-old house offers the kind of space you typically have to look outside the city for. The open floor plan on the ground floor and the wraparound brick front porch only add to the sense of space. The fenced-in backyard includes a patio and expansive concrete-floor parking area that could fit a couple cars and probably the kids’ basketball hoop, too.
If this house were located on the other side of Rock Creek Park in Upper Northwest, the price would easily top $1 million. And we are partial to its Petworth location. It is across the street from a small park, and only seven minutes walking to both the Metro and neighborhood landmark Grant Circle. It is also a half-block from Georgia Avenue, which could mean nice long-term appreciation for the home’s value if the city really moves forward with its plan to reinvigorate that retail corridor.
