If you were one of the tens of thousands of victims of the widespread Comcast internet outage on Sunday night, know that an alternative is on its way.
Verizon has announced that it will launch its 4G network in 38 cities, including DC, on December 5th, according to AppleInsider.
4G stands for the fourth generation of wireless networks and it is a successor to 3G, which is now widely used by iPhone, Droid and other smartphone users. 4G modems will be available at Verizon Wireless stores for approximately $100, and the internet service will cost somewhere between $50 and $80 a month. Verizon smartphone users in the area will have to wait until mid-2011 to take advantage of 4G.
