Two years after the rumors of its arrival began, the Trader Joe's in Friendship Heights has an opening date.
A Trader Joe's representative at the new location confirmed to UrbanTurf that the latest DC outpost at the Chevy Chase Pavilion along Wisconsin Avenue (map) will open on December 4. The store will be the seventh Trader Joe's location in the city.
Back in 2023, Clarion Partners, the owner of the Chevy Chase Pavilion, filed modifications to its 1986 planned unit development (PUD) in order to make a grocery store feasible for the mall. Shortly thereafter, the murmurs began that a Trader Joe's was coming.
The Trader Joe's will be the third grocer in Friendship Heights; Whole Foods Market and Amazon Fresh are located nearby. The retail portion of the Pavilion has largely emptied out over the last several years, and The Cheesecake Factory is the lone remaining retailer.
