Takoma’s bungalows are sought after for their woodwork, deep porches and homey feel. This Week’s Find (which hits the market late Thursday) has all those features and a few more, which might make it the most attractive bungalow on the market in the area.
According to the current owners, the three-bedroom home has served the family in a variety of ways. In addition to having a secret tree house in the backyard and a nursery that is attached to the master bedroom, the tree-filled yard creates a soothing environment. And the front porch (and frankly the front porch culture of the area) has a tangible impact on the neighborhood.
“Part of the Takoma culture is to sit on the porch and socialize with folks,” said current owner Amon Killeen. Currently, the home’s porch is kitted out with hanging planters and rocking chairs.

Inside, the first floor has the dark woodwork typical of a bungalow. The living room opens to both a large dining room and kitchen; the rooms flow in a circular manner, which makes entertaining easy, said Killeen.
Finally, a small office at the back of the house offers a light-filled nook. The room is bounded on three sides with windows, but because it was created in the darkly-wooded arts and crafts style, the room feels more cozy than greenhouse-like.
