4 Barclay Avenue
If This Week’s Find looks a little out of the ordinary for Takoma Park, it’s because it was inspired by a famous home in California.
With a sunny exterior, fruit trees, and a kitchen garden, this five-bedroom was based on Pasadena’s Gamble House, which was designed to be the ultimate example of a bungalow. The Barclay Avenue listing does look like a bungalow on steroids, with extensive woodworking around every corner, including hand-finished doors, custom cabinetry and a wood-burning “Tulikivi” stove.
Besides California, the home took inspiration from a few other places: the bathtub is designed in a Japanese style, which means it is deeper than typical tubs, with stepped seating.
Other notable features include a third-story study accessible only by ladder, a steam shower, radiant floor heating, and a solarium. More details and photos below.
