1701 18th Street NW, Ph 402
1701 18th Street NW has an interesting history.
Built in the early 20th century as a spacious mansion for Dr. William Duncan McKim, the home boasted a music room with a pipe organ and 45-foot ceilings. The property transitioned to life as the Embassy of Taiwan before being converted into a nine-unit condo development called The Duncan in 2004.

This Week’s Find is the 2,400 square-foot penthouse at The Duncan and is one of the true loft spaces in DC. The majority of the square footage in the home is dedicated to open living space and the unit has just one bedroom. Besides the kitchen, the space is customizable, so the new owners can designate what spaces they’d like to utilize as different rooms.

The second level has a study space, a bathroom and access to a terrace that comfortably fits patio furniture. Listing agent Joseph Poduslo says the organ from when the building was used as a single-family home remained in the property until renovations began in 2004 when it was donated to the Universalist Memorial Church on 16th Street.
