Charles Gessford is one of the most well-known architects to design homes on Capitol Hill in the late 19th century, and the brunt of his work was completed between 1875 and 1895. This Week's Find is one of the homes that Gessford designed and built during that period.

The design elements that Gessford's homes were known for included a square-cornered projecting bay in red pressed brick, stained glass windows and door transoms. One of the larger homes that Gessford designed on the Hill, this house on East Capitol Street exhibits all of those design calling cards. Four of the home's stained glass panels were recently restored.
Like most older Capitol Hill townhomes, this listing has a very vertical layout across its four floors. Marble flooring and multiple fireplaces can be found throughout, including in the master bedroom. The home has a fully finished English basement, a long rear back patio, and an original accessory dwelling in the form of a two-story carriage house.
