New housing data reveals that the HQ2 real estate effect extends well beyond National Landing.
In December, UrbanTurf reported that home searches and contracts increased by a respective 743 percent and 633 percent in the National Landing area just after the neighborhood was selected for Amazon's second headquarters. The number of listings in Alexandria that went under contract last month rose 71 percent compared to a year ago, jumping from 127 to 217. The number of active listings consequently fell by 40 percent, resulting in the supply of homes for sale dropping below one month for the first time in 10 years.
All cash purchases accounted for 18 percent of sales last month, up from 10 percent of sales in December 2017, an indication that investors are seizing on opportunities in the city.
