Petworth is one of many DC neighborhoods for which the word “resurgent” has become a common descriptor. While that resurgence is in part due to the fact that the neighborhood is home to a number of new residential construction projects, one of the most charming aspects of Petworth is the existing architecture. Local developers Urban Investment Partners (UIP) recognized this when they bought and renovated The New Hampshire and The Quincy, two historic brick apartment buildings at the intersection of New Hampshire and Georgia Avenues.
Both built in 1926, The New Hampshire and The Quincy (known to insiders as New Quin) are connected but have separate entrances. UIP beautifully renovated both properties -- upgrading, repairing and restoring the common areas, building systems and individual apartments -- while keeping the cast concrete facades intact. The apartments, which have 24-hour controlled access, boast many modern conveniences and amenities, including central air and heat, built-in bookshelves in all units with islands, and brand new kitchens and bathrooms with granite and stainless steel appliances and removable faucets.
The in-home laundry in each apartment may be the crowning amenity, however. It is one unit, and is environmentally friendly, using only three gallons of water per wash. Additionally, residents save money on laundry soap because the washers are high efficiency. Lastly, it uses a ventless dryer, extending the life of your entire wardrobe!
New Quin is one block from the Petworth Metro station on the Yellow and Green Lines. It is an area known for its unique residential feel, though it is now welcoming a host of new restaurants and businesses. The Hilton Brothers (of Thievery Corporation fame and creators of Marvin and Blackbyrd on 14th Street), for instance, have opened French bistro Chez Billy just behind the apartments on Georgia Avenue.
Offering studios, one- and two-bedroom apartments at prices that are affordable in a competitive DC market, New Quin has apartments that rent for an average of $1,800 a month. UIP is currently offering a $500 move-in credit and free credit checks for new residents. Rent payments and maintenance requests can be made online, which means that residents don't have to bother with putting a check in the mail each month.
