Columbia Pike resident Jesse McLaughlin won Apartment.com’s Roommate of the Year contest last September and pocketed $10,000 to cover his rent, and another $10,000 in spending money. ARLNow reported this morning that McLaughlin took the spending cash and used it to buy an engagement ring…for his roommate. According to the blog, McLaughlin recently proposed to his roommate and girlfriend Lisa, who accepted.
For the Roommate of the Year contest, contestants are required to submit a video of two minutes or less “illustrating what makes [them] America’s most desirable living companion.” McLaughlin, who is a security analyst, put together a video that showed his willingness to do chores like cleaning the dishes and the bathroom, as well as pay for pizza and make dessert. While it was not in the same league (humor-wise) as the now-legendary Arlington rap video, it was apparently good enough to win the contest and help fund McGlaughlin’s future.
