The Intown Uptown Inn
It is no secret that rents have gotten pretty high in DC, but UrbanTurf recently happened upon what might be one of the largest and most expensive rentals in the city: a mansion leasing for $24,000 a month.
Currently operating as a bed and breakfast — The Intown Uptown Inn — the 11-bedroom property at 4907 14th Street NW (map) in 16th Street Heights just hit the rental market. While it is still operating as a B&B, owner Sandy Gartrell is looking for a long-term renter to fill the eleven bedrooms, perhaps from an Embassy or another organization.
“I know this is a special home, and it may take a while to find the right tenants,” Gartrell told UrbanTurf.
Built in 1909, the Victorian was a single-family home until 2006, when Gartrell converted it into a bed and breakfast. Gardens, jacuzzi tubs and original details like pocket doors and wainscoting can be found in and around the property, and there is also a cottage in the back. The inn is set up for entertaining, with a catering kitchen and large common rooms, and Gartrell told us that they often host corporate retreats for organizations like the Gates Foundation. The home has attracted more than just possible renters as well; Gartrell says she’s gotten some calls from interested buyers and is open to a rent-to-own situation.
The Intown Uptown Inn joins a few other DC bed and breakfasts looking for a new life; Swann House in Dupont Circle hit the market last month, and the DC Guesthouse in Shaw sold in February.
