The Martha's Table redevelopment may get started soon.
Madison Investments applied for raze permits for several of the buildings in the 2100 block of 14th Street NW (map) this month, signifying a crucial first step toward redevelopment of the former Martha's Table headquarters.
As designed by architect Perkins Eastman, the two- and three-story buildings along the strip will be incorporated into a seven-story mixed-use project with 241 apartments atop 39,382 square feet of commercial space. There will also be 65-75 below-grade parking spaces accessible via rear alley entrance.

The gas station at 1400 W Street NW, along with the properties from 2102-2114 14th, will be partially razed and the façades of four historic buildings will be retrofit; the seven-story plus-habitable penthouse addition will surround those components.
As a nod to the ARTS-3 zoning of the site, several arts-related components will be incorporated to the new development, including a mural and 4,000 square feet dedicated to arts and entertainment partially in and atop the historic garage building at 2114-2116 14th Street. Retail space along the western alley could also be leased to those in the arts or creative industries.
The Board of Zoning Adjustment granted the special exceptions necessary for the development in March; the Historic Preservation Review Board approved the concept in May.
