Today in Quick Hits, Metro launches something that riders have wanted for years and DC’ers officially have a long commute.
- WMATA has announced that Metro riders with SmarTrip cards can now reload them via the internet. To put more money on their cards, customers with registered SmarTrip cards can log onto their SmarTrip account on Metro’s website and click the “add value” link. Most credit cards are accepted. In order for the transaction to be completed, customers must touch their card to a Metrorail fare gate, vending machine or bus farebox.
- A new report reveals that it takes Americans, on average, about 25 minutes to commute to work. The New York City area takes top honors with an average commute of 34.6 minutes, but nipping its heels is the DC area, with a commute of 33.4 minutes.
