On Saturday, the Arlington County Board approved a budget that will cost homeowners in the county.
The passed $1.05 billion budget includes a 1.3 cent increase for the real estate tax rate in Fiscal Year (FY) 2013, which translates to $0.971 per $100 in real estate value. This means that the overall tax and fee burden for the average Arlington homeowner will increase 2.4 percent — or about $13 a month or $155 a year. The budget includes no increases for personal property tax, business tangible property, business and professional licenses, or the commercial transportation tax rates, and trash and recycling fees will decrease $32, to $294 per household.
It appears that a measure to persuade county employees to live where they work did not make it into the final budget. As reported by Ballston-Virginia Square Patch a week ago, there was talk among county officials to include $114,000 in the FY 2013 budget to support a one-time grant for county employees who buy a home in Arlington.
