Neighbors Appeal 219-Unit Development Planned For AU Park Superfresh Site
In December, the Zoning Commission unanimously voted to approve a planned unit development (PUD) on the former Superfresh grocery site in AU Park after a four-year tug-of-war over the project's particulars. Last month, neighborhood detractors made good on threats to continue to contest the development.
Community organizations Citizens for Responsible Development (CRD), Neighbors for a Livable Community, the Spring Valley-Wesley Heights Citizens Association, and nearby resident Marilyn Richert filed an appeal in July to dispute the Zoning Commission's approval of the project. Neither CRD nor developer Valor Development are commenting on the appeal.
As approved, the project would deliver 214 units, a 13,000 square foot grocer, and five townhouses at 4330 48th Street NW (map). Twelve percent of the residential space would be inclusionary zoning units, including at least 4 three-bedroom units. Torti Gallas is the architect.
Correction: A previous version of this article misstated that MOM's Organic Grocer was coming to the development.
