A major rideshare company is tailoring its offerings to the current times.

Last week, Lyft activated its LyftUp initiative, which will offer free rides for essential transportation. Free rides will be provided to doctors, nurses, low-income seniors, families with children, and those needing non-emergency medical transportation.

Through the initiative, Lyft is continuing its Jobs Access and Grocery Access programs, the latter deployed locally to offer discounted rideshare trips to grocery stores for residents in Wards 7 and 8. Lyft has also partnered with companies to deliver meals to students and to house-bound seniors, and to perform contactless delivery of medical supplies and other goods.

The company is also working with nonprofits like the National Council on Aging to give rides to caregivers, and United Way and World Central Kitchen to provide access to food and shelter services. Any nonprofits or government entities who want to use Lyft's transportation services are encouraged to reach out.

Note: Please refrain from driving or riding in a Lyft if you suspect you have or are diagnosed with COVID-19.
