Is a Bowling Alley a Possibility Next to Audi Field?

While a plan for a bowling alley was seemingly nixed from a project near Nationals Park earlier this year, there may be one on the boards near Audi Field.
As part of a design review application filed this summer for a plot of land adjacent to the DC United soccer stadium (map), Hoffman & Associates is seeking a special exception to allow a bowling alley. Overall, the development is proposed to deliver an S-shaped building with 110 affordable senior one-bedrooms, 352 apartments, a new office headquarters for non-profit Volunteers of America (VOA), and 50,450 square feet of ground-floor retail, restaurant, entertainment, and/or performance space.

The bowling alley would be on the ground and second floors of the new development, which will include sound-proofing and other sound mitigation efforts. If there is no bowling alley, the space may instead be used for live performances.
The Zoning Commission is scheduled to consider the project next week; the Office of Planning is recommending approval.
