HGTV’s My First Place Still Casting in DC Area: Figure 1

Back in May, we reported via Housing Complex that the HGTV program My First Place was holding casting calls in the DC/Baltimore area. UrbanTurf received word yesterday that if you missed out the first time around to be on the show that follows first-time home buyers and chronicles the buying process, fear not: casting is still going on.

Hope Hamashige of High Noon Entertainment, the production company behind the show, told UrbanTurf that the show will likely continue to shoot in DC until the end of 2009.

“DC has been great because we have been able to get everyone from singles to couples to families that are looking to buy,” Hamashige said. “Also, the area offers a really nice variety in terms of property types, from huge historical homes to modern condos.”

Hamashige said that the film crews have been making their mark on the Beltway as filming has stretched as far north as Baltimore and as far west as Chantilly. While some buyers have gone to settlement, many are still looking for their first home.

“The thing that is unusual about this show is that we don’t put a deadline on people’s search,” Hamashige said. “People ask us when they have to buy, and we tell them that there are no deadlines.”

That said, the search can be a time consuming process. While the film crew's average stay with one story is about 12 weeks, one search lasted for a year and a half.
