DC Launches Site That Lists Affordable Housing Options

The DC Department of Housing and Community Development recently launched DCHousingSearch.org, a site dedicated to helping DC residents find affordable housing options in the District.
The new service locates available housing using criteria such as pricing, number of bedrooms and baths, rent and deposit information, location from public transportation and accessibility features for people with disabilities. The site also allows you to filter properties by the shopping options that are located nearby.
For renters, it provides an affordability calculator, rental checklist, and renter rights and responsibilities information.
The site is not for everyone, though, as it is really just for those looking for affordable housing options in the city. The prices of the for-sale properties listed on the site are in the low six figures. And, while the property listings do offer most of the information that you would find on any other site that aggregates listings, most do not provide photos of the property.
It should be kept in mind that this new site is not trying to serve as a substitute for large national sites like Craigslist, Zillow and Trulia, but rather to cater to those looking for properties in a very specific price point in DC. Hopefully it will be widely used.
