DC's Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced Monday that it will start to phase out the city's Circulator bus system in October.
The end of Circulator service became clear in the spring when funding for the system was not included in the city's 2025 budget. The system, which launched in 2005, served about two million riders in FY 2023.
“We greatly appreciate the valuable service DC Circulator provided to the District over the past 18 years.” said Acting DDOT Director Sharon Kershbaum said in a statement. “We are grateful for the employees who supported the program and the riders who chose Circulator as part of their commute.”
As of October 1, the following route adjustments will be implemented:
- The Rosslyn-Dupont Circle route will be terminated.
- Late-night service on the Woodley Park-Adams Morgan and Georgetown- Union Station lines will be eliminated.
- The Woodley Park-Adams Morgan, Georgetown-Union Station, Congress Heights-Union Station, and Eastern Market–L'Enfant Plaza routes will end service at 9 pm.
The Circulator system will cease operations at the end of the year.
