Shipping containers aren’t just for new residences in DC.
Homeowner and avid art collector Aaron Pomerantz wanted an art studio behind his Tenleytown home to help house the art collection that he and his wife has amassed over the years. With the help of Travis Price Architects, known for other shipping container projects around town, Pomerantz built and designed a studio made of a shipping container that extends out the back of his home.

“We really want to build a structure and create a venue where we can work with our art, and work with our artist friends, and get our home back,” Pomerantz told HGTV. “Right now it is a storage unit for art.”

The studio consists of a 40-foot container with a number of pop-outs and large windows to let in natural light. The container was modified in Baltimore and then transported to Pomerantz’s backyard in DC. To see the full HGTV episode (payment required), click here.
