Amazon Rolls Out One-Hour Delivery To DC Area

Amazon launched one-hour delivery options in parts of the DC area, the company announced on Tuesday, joining cities like Los Angeles and Chicago in what amounts to the most significant speed upgrade to online shopping in years. More than 90,000 products are eligible for the speedy service, spanning pantry staples, cleaning supplies, over-the-counter medications, clothing, and toys -- essentially, the stuff you'd normally make a Target run for.
The catch, of course, is the price tag. Prime subscribers will pay $9.99 for one-hour delivery and $4.99 for the three-hour option, while non-Prime customers will shell out $19.99 and $14.99, respectively. Amazon has added a dedicated storefront and new search filters on its app so you can easily see which items qualify.
The launch is part of a broader national push by Amazon to reclaim its edge in the increasingly crowded quick-commerce space. Walmart has touted that it can reach 95% of American households in under three hours, while players like Instacart, DoorDash, and Uber Eats have been steadily expanding their own rapid-delivery offerings. Amazon says it plans to expand the one-hour option to more areas in the coming months. For now, you can check eligibility here.
