In this week's installment of Above Asking, UrbanTurf revisits three recently-featured listings that each boast unusual features and each went for five figures over original listing price.
$55,000 Extra for Wood and Windows
This turn-of-the-century federal rowhouse in Georgetown was thoughtfully renovated by award-winning architect Christian Zapatka and is packed with plenty of character and distinguishing features. While the weathered exposed brick wall just inside the entrance seems prototypical, its aesthetic is interrupted by a modern, wood-paneled wood-burning fireplace and a matching entertainment console with floating glass shelves on the opposite wall. Next is a dining area that also is anchored by the exposed brick and has a nearly floor-to-ceiling door that opens onto the wrap-around deck, which in turn overlooks a rear patio with pond. Not only was this Cabin John house a few blocks from the C&O Canal a quick sale, it also commanded $13,000 above asking price — a fact that likely has a lot to do with its unique interior angles. Beneath a pitched ceiling, the hardwood floors throughout the open-concept main level are arranged in a giant chevron that points toward the bright, tiled octagonal kitchen. Just across the hall from the center island, a hexagon-shaped enclosure conceals the skylit master suite, simultaneously creating a separate office vestibule; the suite also enjoys a bedroom-sized custom walk-in closet. The outdoor space is also impressive, with a deck-like front porch and an expansive backyard with a shed and a koi pond.

Bonus spaces include a sunroom that leads to an extra bedroom/studio on the main level and a sizeable partially-finished basement.
