For 2019's inaugural edition of Above Asking, UrbanTurf revisits three listings -- two in Takoma Park and a million-dollar listing in Glover Park -- that sold for $5,000-$57,000 over asking price.
Above Adjusted Asking Price in Takoma Park
Although initially listed for $900,000, the price on this Takoma Park bungalow was dropped by $25,000 almost a month later, then ultimately sold at a $5,000 premium. The living room and formal dining area of the home share diagonal hardwood flooring and are separated by a partial partition wall. The U-shaped kitchen has tiled flooring, an integrated stovetop and oven, and a breakfast bar. The uppermost level houses the expansive owner's suite, which has a vaulted ceiling with two skylights and a den just on the other side of an archway. The lower level is licensed as a separate one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment.

Five Figures Over Asking in Sligo Creek
This three-bedroom ranch house in the hills above Sligo Creek in Takoma Park takes advantage of its setting with an extensive wooden deck and paved patio serving as the front porch and a terraced, woodsy backyard. This was likely just one of the reasons that the home sold for $15,900 above its asking price. The home has a wall of built-ins across the foyer from the front door, while to the right, the living area has a built-in entertainment console and a stepped white brick fireplace between windows and cabinets. The adjacent dining area has a built-in buffet, and a bean-shaped breakfast bar segues into the kitchen, which has an integrated oven and stovetop and a quartet of stacked windows above the sink. An office attached to the owner's suite has a wall of built-ins and six windows that meet at the far corner.

$57,000 Above Asking in Glover Park
Over in Glover Park, this rowhouse also enjoys a more secluded setting, as the back of the property abuts Whitehaven Parkway. The house, which sold for $57,000 above asking, has a full-sized front porch and a main level that has open circulation without being open-concept. A pointed archway leads from the living room into the dichromatic kitchen/dining room, where the former has a breakfast bar opposite the integrated cooktop, sitting beneath a hood with open shelving on either side. There is also a sunroom-like den on this level, with clerestory windows on opposite walls and access to the rear deck. The second bedroom has an alcove on one side with space for a crib or a desk. The third bedroom is on the lower level, which also has a kitchenette. The house also has a rare-for-the-neighborhood parking pad with room for up to three vehicles.
