A Snapshot Of Apartment Rents Across The DC Area

A new report shows that apartment rents rose in the DC region over the last year.
ApartmentList's latest national rent report shows that rent in the city increased 1.9% year-over-year in 2024, but that some close-in areas saw larger increases.

A quick look at rents around the region reveals that Arlington saw the highest rent growth in the DC area, with median rents increasing by about 5%. Median rents in Alexandria followed close behind, increasing by 3.7%.
"Washington, DC is the #14 most expensive large city in the U.S.," the report stated. "The median rent in DC is 57.3% higher than the national, and is similar to the prices you would find in Santa Ana, CA ($2,179) and Los Angeles, CA ($2,057)."
