There are many metrics that indicate the competition level in a housing market, including how many days listings spend on the market. In the DC region in 2021, homes were selling faster than ever.

As the year winds down, UrbanTurf is taking a final look at the neighborhoods in the DC region where homes sold the quickest this year.

Using the median days on market metric, we highlighted ten neighborhoods where homes are selling the fastest. Neighborhoods needed to have at least 15 sales this year to be included on the list.

Four neighborhoods in the region led the way with homes selling on median in just five days. In DC, those neighborhoods were Spring Valley, Takoma and Shepherd Park. In Maryland, homes were also selling in just five days in Glen Echo, a neighborhood off MacArthur Boulevard where homes rarely hit the market.

There were six other neighborhoods with listings selling in a median of 6 days, illustrating the overall competitive nature of the regional market. Those neighborhoods include: Chevy Chase DC, Burleith, Cabin John, Kent, Del Ray and Lily Ponds.

One last thing to note -- except for Glen Echo, every neighborhood in the table above saw homes selling faster than last year.
